How the DPMI works

The DPMI is designed to show how the part of the crypto market backed by active protocols, infrastructure, applications or real-world usage is developing.

1. Purpose

The DPMI is not a general altcoin index. It is designed to answer one question: How is the functional, productive part of the crypto market developing? A rising DPMI means the weighted basket of productive crypto projects is above its base level; a falling DPMI means the opposite.

2. Raw data and candidates

CoinGecko is the primary raw-data source. Dudelytics uses market capitalizations, prices, historical price series and categories, but builds its own index from them. CoinGecko does not decide which assets are included.

Candidates are drawn primarily from smart-contract platforms, DeFi, oracles, interoperability, RWA, DePIN, AI infrastructure, Layer 2 and privacy infrastructure. The CoinGecko ID is the unique key.

3. Productive Gate: positive admission, not automatic passage

A candidate is included only after Dudelytics has positively verified that it represents an active productive protocol, network or application. This requires an independent function for third parties and a traceable functional role for the token within the system.

The review is documented in the Dudelytics Eligibility Registry: status, activity, productive class, token role, concise evidence, review date and sources. Unreviewed, outdated or not actively confirmed candidates fail closed and are not included. Positive reviews must be renewed regularly.

4. General exclusions

Bitcoin itself, stablecoins, memecoins, wrapped tokens, bridged representations, pure liquid-staking/staking representations of assets already included, and other technical asset duplicates are excluded.

Also excluded are pure payment, currency or store-of-value coins without an additional productive protocol function, as well as tokenized assets and financial products themselves. An RWA protocol can be productive; a tokenized gold bar or Treasury fund is not automatically a productive protocol.

5. Top 30

After candidate collection, exclusions and the Productive Gate, the 30 largest remaining positively verified projects by current market capitalization are included. Category overlap is allowed; a project can enter the index only once via its CoinGecko ID.

6. Weighting and 15% cap

Projects are generally weighted by market capitalization. No project may receive more than 15% at rebalancing. Excess weight is redistributed proportionally to projects that have not yet hit the cap; the process repeats until all weights comply. Rebalancing weights sum to 100%.

Between rebalances, live weights may drift away from the rebalance weights as prices move.

7. Index level and history

The DPMI launched with a base value of 100. Changes in included assets affect the index according to their weights. Since production launch, history has been maintained centrally on dudelytics.com and shared by the website and app.

The initial seven-day history is explicitly a historical backfill using the current basket and current weights. It does not reconstruct the composition that existed at the time and is therefore marked separately as backfill. Real data points stored after production launch are marked observed.

8. Rebalancing

At 00:00 UTC on the first calendar day of each month, candidates, exclusions, positive eligibility reviews, the Top 30 and weights are recalculated. A rebalance must not create an artificial jump in the index. The new composition is chain-linked to the existing index level; older compositions remain historically traceable.

9. Methodology changes

The DPMI is not changed retroactively to make it look better. Changes to categories, exclusion rules, the Productive Gate or weighting require a new documented version. The rules are project-neutral.

Dude-VIX / DVIX · DVIX-0.1

DVIX measures mechanical market stress in the productive DPMI universe. The score weights 24h realized volatility at 35%, 24h downside shock at 25%, the average 48h correlation across the seven DPMI sectors at 20%, and seven-day drawdown pressure at 20%. It uses stored observed DPMI/sector-index points only and is not an options-implied volatility index.

Methodology, DPMI and product changes do not disappear into the engine room. The Dude Report documents what was built, repaired or changed in the instrument itself.
